San Francisco Update
So far so good. It was a full day of information about the protocols and details of the Japan trip; and on two hours of sleep I needed lots of coffee to stay focused. But that's no sacrifice. And I even had enough pep to get in a decent little jog along the bay. It's a great place to watch planes land, as they come down right onto a runway built out on the water.

Tomorrow I head out on my eleven-hour flight at about 2PM. Maybe there will be internet access on the flight; otherwise it may be a while till I can post again. Meanwhile here's a bit of a challenge that will be worth a couple candy IOUs to the kids who find the most user-friendly online explanation: Probably most of you know that when it's 10PM here in California, the clocks back in Indiana (most of it, anyway) say 1AM, because as one crosses through timezones going west across the USA, clocks are turned backward, to an earlier time. But even though Japan is further west, instead of gaining time by passing into earlier timezones, when I land in Japan exactly the opposite will have occurred -- I'll have "lost" time. What's the cause of this conundrum?

Find the most easy-to-understand website that explains this phenomena and post it here in the comments section, then I'll declare the winning submissions.
