Ingredients of Culture, Part III-- religion

In brief, few Japanese are Christian or either of the other monotheistic religions. The vast majority consider themselves Buddhist, Shinto, or both. One of the groovy side-effects of this is that if one is walking about town, it's not unusual at all to happen across a shrine or temple. Here are some of my favorite pics from such discoveries.
